Another business coming to Marion
Auto House is allowed to purchase, build, and operate a vehicle towing and recovery business at Marion Business Park. Marion City Council followed the recommendation made by Marion Planning Commission and approved a conditional use permit Friday morning to allow the Galva business to open a business in Marion.

Kingfisher's building to be sold
For more than 65 years, Kingfisher Inn had been a destination restaurant with thousands of people supporting it each year. The waterside restaurant has been closed since September 2006, and now it will be auctioned in a sheriff’s sale Jan. 15.
County lake users object to rule changes
Residents appeared at Marion County Commission Monday to protest proposed rule changes at Marion County Park and Lake. David Oursler and Kevin Timmermeyer objected to proposed changes regarding boats and docks at the lake.
Worker is Marion native: Continuous on-the-job training for lineman
Tim Jirak of Hillsboro likes his job as a lineman for Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative Association. “Every day you can learn something new,” he said. “The old-timers told me when I was an apprentice that when you think you have everything figured out, something new will come along, and they were right.”
County purchases tree saw
Marion County Commission voted to purchase a Montezuma tree saw Wednesday for $5,592 from Ag Power of Hillsboro. Marion County Road and Bridge Superintendent John Summerville said there was enough money in the department’s 2008 budget to purchase the saw for a skid steer.
County approves HVAC contract for jail building
Marion County Commission approved a contract with KVK of Woodbine for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance for the jail. The county will pay $860 quarterly for maintenance, primarily on the boiler.
Is this a road ... or a lake?
It is the worst of the worst. Between Kanza and Limestone, 180th Road is in the poorest condition of all the minimum-maintenance roads in the county, said Marion County Road and Bridge Superintendent John Summerville. The road has been impassable since about eight years ago when it was washed away by a creek that changed course, Cal Jost said. He asked Marion County Commission Wednesday to make enough repairs to give him access to a field.
Planning board asked to revise rule
Marion County Commission discussed proposed changes to zoning rules Monday with Marion County Planning Commission. At a previous meeting, Commissioner Randy Dallke said he opposed a rule change that would give the county the power to remove manufactured homes that were still habitable.

Vera Kreutziger
Vera Maxine Kreutziger, 86, of Baldwin City, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Jan. 7, 1922 in Whitewater, the daughter of Louella Mae (Hash) and Casper Simpson Eilerts.

MES receives $1,000 grant
Marion Elementary School nurse Kristin Garman is a recipient of a $1,000 Healthy Habits for Life grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation. Garman is one of 42 nurses from across the state who received grants for the school to promote healthy lifestyle choices to their students.
Bringing radio to life: Former MHS students to perform unconventional drama
