The name of Marion Unified School District changed Monday. It now is Marion-Florence Unified School District. The school’s board of education unanimously approved the change at their regular monthly meeting after a delegation from Florence Chamber of Commerce met with the board to request the change.

A collision Friday between a car and semi near Peabody claimed the lives of Marsha Helmer and daughter, Jennifer, both of Marion. A two-vehicle crash Sunday near Pilsen took the life of Anthony Clegg of Lincolnville, and caused injuries to four others.

Members of Youngtown Methodist Church plan a special service Oct. 24 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the present church building.

Phyllis Melton has been hand hemming tea towels for St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She hemmed towel number 4,000 on Sept. 10.
