Single digit temperatures are a sign of the times this week in Marion County. Wind chill indexes produced readings far below zero. Safety experts said frostbite was a real threat to people outdoors.

Neighbors in the Burr Oak neighborhood of Marion enjoyed a Christmas gathering Sunday evening at the home of Harvey and Betty Sanders.

Included in this issue are the wedding write-ups of Danielle Longhofer of Marion and Brian Bartelli of Parsons and Jennifer Backhus of Tampa and Michael Jay of Goessel.

Ed Hett, M.D., who grew up in Marion and is now a family practice physician in Wichita, has been selected to receive the “Family Practice Community Volunteer of the Year” award as part of the annual Family Practice Postgraduate Education Program of the University of Kansas School of Medicine—Wichita.

Members of the Marion High School girls’ varsity basketball team are Nikki Rogers, Sara Zogelman, Melissa Moffitt, Tiffany Tajchman, Katie Rogers, Heidi Zogelman, Krista Zogelman, Stacia Williams, Maggie Powers, Jessica Davis, and Erin Slattery.

Marion City Library has raised about $84,000 of its $150,000 goal. An architect’s meeting is planned for early January for a final review of the proposed plans by city officials.
