Marion Police Officer Michel Soyez has been named City of Marion Employee of the Year.

Items donated to the Community Christmas program filled St. Mark’s Activity Center Friday. A handful of volunteers worked all day Friday and into the night arranging items and making last-minute purchases to be delivered to families in need.

Forrest and Bea Kelsey hosted a neighborhood Christmas/block party Sunday evening at their home. The evening was spent enjoying finger foods and visiting.

Marion High School foreign language teacher JoAnn Good is pictured as she carefully constructs a gingerbread house Thursday for students in her German I class. Gingerbread houses are traditional Christmas treats in Germany, Good explained.

The entire landscape was blanketed Dec. 13 with a gentle, four- to five-inch snowfall. Because the snow came with no wind, traffic was able to move through the snow and schools remained open. Light snow Monday morning was accompanied by a strong wind, which created blizzard conditions in rural areas.

Centre Unified School district has been notified that it has been named as a beneficiary in the estate of the late Clara S. Mowrer. The sum of $250,000 has been bequeathed to the district to provide a scholarship endowment.
