Marion City Library exceeded its fundraising goal for 2000 by raising more than $100,000 in matching funds toward the renovation project to convert the former Santa Fe Depot into a library.

The first baby born in St. Luke Hospital in 2001 is Nickolas Alexander Cook, son of Anna McCann of Marion. Delivered at 2:40 p.m. January 4, he weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces.

Three weddings announced in this week’s issue were those of Jami Groening and Ray Allen Helmer who were married Nov. 4, Laura Anne Harrison and Robert Edward Cannon, who exchanged vows Oct. 14, and Becky Shaffer and Spencer Hedstrom who were married Nov. 25.

Western Associates, Inc. will donate items for a fund-raiser for a new computer for Marion Chamber of Commerce. It’s a different kind of sale. Make a fair donation and pick out what you want.

Officials sworn into office Monday included Third District Commissioner Leroy Wetta, Second District Commissioner Howard Collett, Register of Deeds Faye Makovec, County Attorney Susan Robson, Sheriff Lee Becker, Eighth Judicial District Chief Judge Michael Powers, County Treasurer Jeannine Bateman, and County Clerk Carol Maggard.
