Archivist Deric Wortham, a record acquisition specialist from the Genealogical Society of Utah, is working at the Marion County Courthouse basement storage room. The society is going through Kansas, county by county, systematically microfilming records for genealogical research. Wortham will be here for the next six months.

The Beef Improvement Federation’s meeting in Wichita this week included supper at Randy and Judy Mills’ ranch south of Florence. The meal followed an afternoon of touring the Flint Hills, considered one of the richest grazing areas in the world.

Forrest and Joyce Smith have returned from a 14-day tour to San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest.

The state tournament for Cal Ripken Division of the Kansas Babe Ruth League starts Friday in Marion.

Marion High School graduate Ethan Good is spending his summer working on developments connected with the International Space Station, the Earth’s first step for return to the moon and manned flight to Mars. He works for The Boeing Company’s Space and Communications Group. The Boeing facility is across the street from Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
