Eight teams competed in the Cal Ripken Division tournament of Kansas Babe Ruth held in Marion from Thursday through Monday. The tournament was won by the team from Pittsburg that now advances to regional competition in Minnesota.

A new three-screen movie theater will be constructed near U.S. 56 in Hillsboro. It is expected to be in operation by Christmas.

Due to ill health, Clinton and Frances Hanschu closed their grocery store in Ramona on Monday.

Rex Wilson is retiring as cross country coach at Marion High School, and a reception is planned at 3 p.m. Saturday for cross country alumni.

A large flock of buzzards regularly roost at the Donahue Hayhook Ranch northeast of Marion. Tim Donahue said they arrive like clockwork on March 21 and leave at the end of October.

Navy Seaman Morgan S. Sader, 19, daughter of Kim Sader of Lincolnville, participated May 30 to June 6 in a military exercise known as Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2000 in and around Hawaii.

County Attorney Dan Baldwin was faced with more than 30 of his own yard signs, in his own yard, early Tuesday morning. It is speculated the signs were placed in Baldwin’s yard by people he has charged in his role as prosecuting attorney, not an act of those who support his opponent.
