“If you can grow African violets, you can grow orchids.” So say Eileen Sieger and Jeannine Bateman, both of Marion. They have been cultivating orchid plants for several years and add to their collections every year. Jeannine has about a dozen plants and Eileen has 45.

Anna Hicks of New Cambria has opened The Exception, a clothing store, at 202 E. Main in downtown Marion.

Estelle McCarty, longtime Florence community volunteer, was injured in a vehicle crash in Missouri during the holiday weekend.

Calamity Jane (Meredith Moore) and local sheriff (Levi Arnhold) were among Marion High School students presenting scenes from “Deadwood Dick” Monday to Marion Kiwanis Club. The melodrama will be presented Saturday and Sunday as the school’s fund-raiser.

Several Marion County employees received certificates from the Kansas Association of Counties for completing training in customer relations through KAC. Completing the training were Kathy Swann, Frances Smalley, Kerry Maag, Jeannine Bateman, Lori Herzet, Sandra Svoboda, Judy Houdyshell, and Suzanne Robinson.

Board members for Leadership Marion County 2000 are Matt Newhouse, Rod Hamm, Susan Cooper, Carla Hajek, Rollin Schmidt, Pam Lamborn, Jeff Cady, Tom Alstrom, and Cari Garbo.
