Farmers in the area are pleased with the wheat crop. Test weights are at or above normal, and hot, dry weather has prevented problems with excess grain moisture. Most fields are yielding 50 bushels per acre, with some yielding as high as 72.

Marion Middle School students Chelsea Arnhold, Patrick Becker, Tyson Heidebrecht, and Whitney Wear have been selected as members of the National Teachers Hall of Fame Honor Choir. The choir will perform Saturday at Emporia State University.

A year-long microfilming project in Marion County Courthouse is at an end. Deric Worthman of The Genealogical Society of Utah has been microfilming records important to genealogical research. He finished with 190,000 feet of film, 190 reels in all, including about one-third of all county records. Most of the microfilming stopped at 1900 because later records are in better condition.

Purple Heat, a girls’ softball team with players from Marion, Florence, Peabody, and Herington took home the championship trophy this past weekend in the Twin Rivers Summer Slam, Emporia. Team members are Megan Moore, Heidi Zogelman, Krista Zogelman, Emmy Bowers, Erin Fruechting, Nikki Moody, Blythe Weir, Jayme Steele, Leann Thomas, and Chelsea Brunner.

Andrew Brookens and Braxton Skiles of Marion and Steven Waner and William Scriven of Florence recently returned from Boys’ State of Kansas.
