Kenny Grosse of Grosse Construction, Peabody, is pictured digging a large pit at the site of the historic springs in the east side of Central Park. Marion city employees hauled the dirt away. The pit will be lined and filled with recycling water to form a reflecting pool. It is part of a project to beautify the site and is funded by a donation from the late Paul Brooker.
Maria Jirak, daughter of Mary and Francis Jirak, rural Tampa, and a member of Centre FFA Chapter, attended the 2001 Washington Leadership Conference held June 12 to 17 in the nation’s capital. It was an activity of the National FFA organization.
A special deer hunt for those with physical disabilities is planned at Marion Reservoir. The hunt will be offered in two segments, Sept. 15 through 19 and 23 through 27. Drawings will be held for each period with five hunters and one alternate accepted for each.
Tomi McLinden, Marion, placed first June 19-20 in dance at the Lions Club deaf and hard of hearing overnight camp at Rock Springs Ranch. She also placed in the navigation category and participated in numerous outdoor activities. About 50 campers participated in the week-long camp.
Marion County candidates for the Tri-County Fair queen are Natalie Carlson of Lincolnville, Amy Goentzel of Marion, and Cheryl Prieb of Hillsboro.
