The game was played during the annual breakfast hosted by the Chamber of Commerce for district teachers and personnel.

Recreation director Don Jolley submitted his resignation Monday to the Marion City Commission. Mayor Eloise Mueller accepted it “ with regret.”

Lawrence Rabon, Lincolnville, was surprised Aug. 1 to receive a package in the mail from the U.S. Military Service. Inside were seven medals for service in the 82nd and 13th airborne divisions during World War II more than 56 years ago. “It has been said that the wheels of government turn lowly. Last week I found out how slowly,” he said.

Around 100 people turned out at an ice cream social Sunday evening to support Marion’s skateboard park.

Cy Goertz of Marion entered a tomato from his garden in this week’s Marion County Record Produce Derby. It had a circumference of 14½ inches and weighed 1½ pounds.
