Members of the Aulne United Methodist Church will celebrate its 125th anniversary on July 2.

A series of free concerts are scheduled in Central Park this summer, courtesy of Marion-Florence REC and Marion County District Court. Concerts start June 30 with admission free of charge.

Congressman Jerry Moran presented official certificates of recognition and lapel pins to Korean War veterans or their survivors during a ceremony on Memorial Day at Abilene. Among those receiving the awards were Joe Alvarez of Lost Springs, Joan Bowers of Marion who is the widow of Harold Bowers Jr., and Don Fruechting of the Aulne community.

Most farmers have been busy cutting wheat. Some report yields in the range of 30 to 40 bushels per acre. Test weights for most fields are 60 pounds or more.

Dwight and Helen Beckham, 48 Lakeshore Drive, Marion, recently received the Heritage Award from the city of Newton, recognizing them for “outstanding” work in preserving history.

Students listed on the spring semester honor roll at Kansas State University include the following from Marion: Carrie Lynn Darrow, Brendan J. Kraus, and Aaron Lee Reiswig.

Stan Williams and his 1986 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro set a new Mid-States Racing Association record in Super Street category June 10 at Wichita State International Raceway.
