Improvements to the City of Marion’s electrical distribution system will steadily stabilize customer usage and bills, utilities superintendent Harvey Sanders told Marion Kiwanis Club members Monday.

Pearl Cook has been a resident of September Apartments since 1988. Her rather unique claim to fame is that her great-great-grandmother was chosen to lay flowers at the feet of George Washington as he passed through Trenton, N.J., on the way to his presidential inauguration in 1789.

The Holy Family team of Greg, Brian, and Phillip Klenda, Jeremy Loewen, Aaron Barney, Josie Loewen, Laura Klenda, Cecelia Rziha, Maria Jirak, Jenna Tajchman, Amy Goentzel, Kristin Mueller, and Sarah Davidson took first place in the CYO ball tournament Sunday in Hutchinson.

Paula Barta, M.A., Marion, was one of just 21 speech and language pathologists to attend an intensive workshop this week dealing with stuttering therapy.

Surveyors with Walters Morgan Construction aligned stakes Monday at the clear well project at the city of Marion water plant. The 250,000-gallon concrete tank will replace a 30,000-gallon tank. Potable water is held in the clear well until it enters the distribution center.

Kenney and Jean Jost, rural Marion, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 16 at their home. Lunch will be served, followed by a musical program.
