A chapel and other buildings at Fort Riley were named Monday for Chaplain Emil Kapaun, the priest from Pilsen who died during the Korean War.

Marion Elementary School fourth grade students, Drew Maddox, Lindsay Hett, and Danae Edwards are pictured planting tulip bulbs with the help of Tamra Holub. Almost 1,000 bulbs were planted as part of Red Ribbon week activities. The blooming flowers will spell “MES” in front of the school.

The old 316 area code, which covered the south half of Kansas, except for the Wichita region, is now 620.

Skip and Eileen Sieger returned Friday from a tour to Hawaii, having left from Wichita Oct. 22. Eileen brought home five new orchid plants for her collection.

Nearly 100 motorcycles plus classic cars participated Saturday in the eighth annual Toy Run.

This year’s winner of Duckwall’s annual Cute Baby contest is Emily Schafers, daughter of Travis Schafers of Marion. Runner-up was Ryan Bradford, son of Bill and Tammy Bradford of Marion. The contest netted $372.21 for Marion’s Community Christmas.

TV anchorman Larry Hatteberg of KAKE featured the Stone City Café’s flag mural Sunday at 10 p.m. on Hatteberg’s People. Café owner Debbie Cook and artist Barbara Chavez were on the program.
