Jim Donahue took advantage of the sleet and snow accumulation last week to transport a team of horses and 100-year-old sleigh from Clover Cliff Ranch to his hometown of Durham to provide rides for townspeople. The 8-passenger sleigh has red velvet upholstered seats to give a comfortable ride.

Four Marion High School students served as pages Jan. 28 in the Kansas House of Representatives. The students were JoAnna McGinness, Alissa Vogel, Chelsea Arnhold, and Tomi McLinden.

Rebecca Ediger, special agent of the Presidential Protection Division, U.S. Secret Service, received the Distinguished Service Award Dec. 13 from the executive office of the president. Ediger is head of White House security. She is a graduate of Peabody High School and Wichita University and a former physician’s assistant in Marion.

David Tharp and Jessica Ottensmeier were selected Friday as 2002 King and Queen of Courts. Other queen candidates were Jayme Steele and Kelsey Craig. King candidates were Keith Dudley and Laramie Trapp.

Complaints about a mild winter ceased Jan. 29 when a winter storm began dropping sleet, freezing rain, and snow across the area.
