Announced in this week’s issue are open houses honoring the anniversaries of the following: Jack and Sylvia Helmer, 50th wedding anniversary, Ronald and Ruth Herbel, 40th wedding anniversary, and Harry Miller of Herington, 90th birthday.

Marion Middle School wrestlers participating in the Cottonwood Valley Junior League tournament are Preston Williams, Dustin Steele, Riley Ross, Dale Coe, Clinton Jeffrey, John Barr, Mike Kirkpatrick, Sean Brittain, Adam Depler, Casey Nelson, Gavin Moore, Nic Waner, Ben Leppke, Luke Bowers, and Michael Brookens.

Randy Mills of Florence has been elected vice chairman of the Kansas Beef Council Executive Committee for the coming year.

The four websites operated by Hoch Publishing Co., Inc. have each received Golden Web awards. The national awards are based on design, content, and originality. All four sites are designed by Eric Meyer and are maintained by Donna Bernhardt.

Will Meysing, formerly of Marion and now a successful businessman at Portland, Ore., is director of tHis-Story, a publication devoted to pioneer studies. Meysing is an avid student of history. He owns and plans to restore the former Billings Park area of Marion.

A lunch of green eggs and ham was served at the elementary school Friday in recognition of the birthday of Theodore Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
