Marion High School Class of 2002 will graduate 34 students Sunday. More than one-third of the class is designated as honor students for maintaining high academic performance throughout high school.

Ed Sandwell of Marion has received a certificate of appreciation from the Republic of France for his service during the Normandy Invasion during WWII. The certificate is issued only to living veterans of the invasion and liberation of France.

Marion Municipal Auditorium will have new stage curtains, both side curtains and mid-stage curtains. Marion City Commission approved Monday the purchase of the curtains from low bidders, The County Seat, for $4,822.

Several Marion Elementary School students received free bicycle helmets Friday in an artwork contest sponsored by the Marion County Safe Kids Coalition. The winners were Kelli Hess, Chelsea Voth, Jessie Taylor, Tommy Tajchman, Kayley Heerey, Alan Overton, and Kristin Waner.

Pictured is a Mother’s Day cactus, blooming this year, just in time for Mother’s Day, at the home of Nadine Koegeboehn, 216 N. Locust. The mother of three has had the cactus for the past 9 or 10 years.

Hogan Lovelady of Wichita caught the largest fish, a three-pound channel, at the Kid’s Fishing Derby Saturday at Marion County Lake. Catching the most fish was Zan Fine of Florence.
