Sheriff Lee Becker presented a set of punchboards to the Marion Historical Museum Tuesday. The games of chance, confiscated by law officers in the late 1940s, were popular in the earlier part of the 20th century.

The first woman’s ranch rodeo in the history of the Marion County Fair will debut Aug. 7 at the fairgrounds in Hillsboro.

Linda Allison, fourth grade teacher at Marion Elementary School, recently returned from a two-week study course at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

Chad Buchholz was presented with the first place trophy Sunday following the Emporia City Golf Championship. The tournament ended with Buchholz wining a one-hole sudden-death playoff.

“Converting a depot into a library is a great way to save it,” railroad expert and author Robert Collins said July 17 at Marion City Library. “This is a beautiful depot rededication,” Collins told the 40 people who attended. “You in Marion can consider yourselves proud.”
