Banner Health System which currently operates Marion County Hospital District No. 1 has said it does not intend to renew that contract past Dec. 31, 2004. It appears likely the district will operate the facility independently starting in 2005.

A sinkhole was discovered Wednesday on the grounds of Centre Elementary School when a group of students was playing soccer. The hole mushroomed out to the depth of about 10 feet. At the bottom was a hole that went down another 50 feet. A well service continues work to determine the origin of the sinkhole.

Family and friends of Victor A. and Madonna Schafers gathered at the Marion County Lake hall Saturday for a surprise party to celebrate Vic’s 80th birthday.

Kent and Alice Richmond recently had a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary when they and their immediate family enjoyed a 7-day cruise from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia.

Marion High School carpentry students will build a new 8’ x 12’ house for Santa. They are asking Santa’s helpers to help supply the materials.

Descendants of Ferd and Helen Winter held their annual family reunion Sunday at the Marion County Park and Lake Hall. This year’s hosts were Forrest and Bea Kelsey.
