With all the discussion about trash pickup, transfer station, and recycling, the City of Marion decided Monday that recycling would have to go, because the other two are costing more.

Marion County Sheriff Lee Becker told Marion County Commission before the Thanksgiving break he was going to have to spend extra money finding places to house prisoners. “We’ve got too many bodies and not enough room,” the sheriff said.

A steady stream of people visited Christmas Magic Sunday afternoon in the former city library. The event featured 24 displays from table settings to Christmas trees with specific themes.

The first $100 prizewinner in the “Christmas on Us” promotion is Alice Gordon. Gordon works for Hoppy Line and lives with her family at the Marion County Lake

Thirty-nine students from Marion County are included in the 36th annual edition of “Who’s Who Among High School Students in 2001-2002. Those from Marion High School are Kayla Barrett, Sarah Davidson, Hannah Eis, Jeffrey Moody, Gladys Mukwindidza, Emma Parli, Danielle Steele, Megan Whitaker, Brian Bina, Emily Davis, Tracy Khounsavanh, Nicole Moody, Caitlin O’Dell, Maggie Powers, and Neil Waner.
