Men and women alike joined in making peppernuts Friday at Marion Senior Center. The traditional German holiday treats are being sold as a fundraiser for the center at $5 a pound or $2.75 a half pound.
Students in Laura Baldwin’s fourth grade class at Marion Elementary School are pictured reading letters they received in response to letters they wrote to people serving in the U.S. military. Those in the picture are Tim Costello, Chassidy Carlson, Madison Chamberland, Adam Molleker, Alex Cain, Michael Kirkpatrick, and Zach Robson. Other classmates who wrote letters are not pictured.
Franklin Delano Boyle, 70, retired Kansas Highway Patrol trooper, died Dec. 6 at Wichita. While serving as a trooper, he twice was assigned to Marion.
It has been a tradition of Dwight and Julie Nelson, owners of the Copper Shed, to create a special outdoor attraction each Christmas. This year Rusty the Snowman has been created by Dwight, using old barbed wire and other junk.
Three former Marion High School students, Ross Matthew Goering, Joshua Wade Wildin, and Aaron Lee Reiswig, will be granted Bachelor of Science degrees in their individual studies Friday and Saturday at Kansas State University, Manhattan.
