According to Ralph Noriega, manager of the Marion SRS office, the new target date for closure here is Sept. 19. He said 22 offices in Kansas are closing in May and June.

A new dog ordinance for Marion prohibits keeping or owning certain breeds. Included are Staffordshire bull terriers, American pit bull terriers, Rottweiler, or “any dog which has the appearance and characteristics of being predominantly Rottweiler.” Those who already have such dogs may keep them under a grandfathering position with certain reservations.

Teachers were honored for service to the district at Monday night’s Board of Education meeting. Those honored and their years of service are: Susan Reid, 30 years; Mary Jane Grimmett and Steve Janzen, 25; Don Molleker and Bruce Rhodes, 20; Jan Davis, Mark Meyer, Grant Thierolf, Robin Richmond, Calvin Seadek, Laurie Seacrest and Connie Williams, 10.

Marion County Health Department awarded three bikes as grand prizes in a drawing held at the end of Child Safety Week. Bike winners were Colleen Tajchman, 12, Cheyenne Jeffrey, 6, and Derek Stuchlik, 9.

Members of the Marion County Planning Commission visited the Gray County wind farm near Montezuma May 7 to see a wind farm in operation and to gather information.
