A whirlwind week of finals, farewells, parties, and practices culminated Sunday for 63 Marion High School seniors when they stepped across the stage to accept their diplomas. The class of 2003 recognized four valedictorians, Kayla Barrett, Brian Bina, Matt Rhodes, and Heidi Zogelman. Megan O’Dell was salutatorian.

The seventh annual Chingawassa Days will be June 6, 7, and 8. The Ozark Mountain Daredevils will perform the headline concert at 9 p.m. June 7 in Central Park.

Marion osteopathic physician John Barr, 47, was reported missing Monday during a gyrocopter flight from Kansas to South Dakota. The physician is employed in South Dakota and often flies between his home in Marion and his practice in South Dakota.

Chief Mambo and Kennedy Mhondoro, both from Zimbabwe are in Kansas for the next several weeks. They hope to raise funds for a job-training center in their home district. The men are guests of Bob and Judy Priest during their Kansas sojourn.

Three Marion High School boys will attend American Legion Boys’ State June 1 to 7 at Kansas State University, Manhattan. Jared Kirkpatrick, Justin Brookens, and Andrew Holt were selected by American Legion Post No. 22, Marion.
