Sheriff Lee Becker is pictured as he uses a flashlight to peer into an abandoned cistern found near the courthouse’s southeast corner, between the courthouse and Becker’s office. The cistern contained old documents as well as used syringes assumed to have been put there after use by the county health department.

Highway K-150 re-opened this weekend just in time for the Labor Day holiday weekend. It has been closed for two years.

A five-generation picture features matriarch Alice Seibel, her daughter Pearl Helmer, Pearl’s son Dennis, Dennis’ daughter Jennifer, and Jennifer’s daughter Aleah.

Nickolas Hett defeated his father, Aaron, in the Marion Country Club championship golf tournament Aug. 23-24. Both shot 72 the first day of the tournament. Heading into the final day, Nickolas knocked in a chip shot to take a one-stroke lead and win the tournament.

Marion Elementary fourth grade students of Linda Allison, Ginger Becker, and Laura Baldwin got a taste Friday of what it was like to travel on the historic Santa Fe Trail. Several rode a covered wagon along the historic trail near Durham while others walked. The team and wagon, owned by Jim Donahue, was driven by Glennon Crowther of Durham.
