Paul Brooker of Wichita has fond memories of growing up in Marion, especially Central Park and the natural spring which flowed out of the hill on the park’s east side. On Aug. 4, he drove to Marion with his financial adviser and met with Mayor Max Hayen and other city officials. Brooker presented Mayor Hayen a check in the amount of $50,000 and said it is his desire to see the spring rejuvenated and renovated in Central Park.

Shirley and David Bowers have returned from a trip to Alaska.

Warren and Paula Fike of Ramona will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 21 with an open house at the senior center in Tampa.

Four people have applied for the at-large position on the Marion Unified School District board of education. Jan Helmer, Dan Holub, Bruce Skiles, and Jami Williams submitted letters of interest to the board. The position became vacant when board member Chris Costello resigned in July.
