“Smooth, very smooth,” said Tom Kimbrel of Saturday’s 92nd annual Old Settlers’ Day in Marion. Kimbrel, vice president of Marion’s Kiwanis Club, was general chairman of this year’s celebration.

Robin Dicks of Marion has established a free clothing storehouse at 708 N. Cedar St. in Marion.

Brian Fruechting had the best total in the boy’s 10-11-year-old division in the Punt, Pass & Kick competition held in Marion Sept. 21. Elliot Hett was the winner in the 12-13-year-old division, and Cole Lewman in the 8-to-9-year-old division. In the girls’ competition, Erin Meierhoff was the winner in the 8-9-year-old division, Alexis Cain in the 10-11 girls, and Lanna Carroll in the `12-13 girls.

Nancy Burkholder of Westport Point, Mass., was in town Friday to dedicate the first of four benches at Marion City Library dedicated in memory of her late husband, Marion native Tim Burkholder, who died Dec. 2, 2002, at the age of 70.

Centre High School 2003 fall homecoming royalty will be crowned Friday. Queen candidates are Andrea Carlson, Raschelle Jirak, Amanda Kleiber, and Trichia Pauls. King candidates are Aaron Barney, Travis Burns, Eric Peterson, and Todd Stahlecker.
