Cold temperatures this past week made it feel like Christmas was rapidly approaching and the addition of holiday decorations reinforced that feeling when a City of Marion crew was out Friday hanging Christmas decorations on Main Street.

Pictured is Janie Meierhoff, manager of Duckwall’s, as she presents a $25 Duckwall’s gift certificate to Brandon and Angela Lange. Eight-month-old Brandon was the winner of the Cute Baby contest held at Duckwall’s during October. Meierhoff also presented a check for $220 to Margo Yates, Community Christmas committee member.

Ray Helmer of Marion reportedly is recovering well from injuries received Saturday when a power takeoff shaft from a tractor hit him in the head at his farm.

As part of a supervised study class taught by Deanna Thierolf, Marion Middle School eighth graders toured Marion National Bank on Monday. The students learned about checking accounts, savings account, and loans. Other basic life skills students will learn are car maintenance, washing clothes, sewing buttons, meal planning and CPR.

Marion Warriors football team was bumped off its road to the 3A state football championship Saturday night, falling in the quarterfinals to the Swathers of Hesston 24-6.
