Evidence of spring is apparent around Marion. Blooming Bradford pear trees, several near Marion Cemetery, make winter seem long ago.

Jack and Donna Hett of Marion, Bruce and Sandra Hett of McPherson, and Tom and Shelly Stafford of Hays were recent guests of Lew and LaVonda Rothman at La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

Engagements announced in this issue included those of Bethany Baker and Eric Carlson, Melissa Stimac and Nolan Brunner, and Maryna Sitsko and Austin Gilbert.

Allen Abbott, rural mail carrier at Lincolnville, retired Feb. 29 after 23 years of delivering mail in that area. He is being replaced by Randy Kahns, who has been assistant carrier for 18 years.

Marion Fire Department’s newest member also is its first female firefighter. Pictured is Kim Ross, who said she became a firefighter “to make a difference in the Marion Community.”

Timothy Schuler, a senior at Marion High School, was awarded Kansas State University’s Foundation Scholarship Feb. 6. Shuler is the son of Gary and Mary Schuler.

Florence Labor Day committee will hold its annual Spring Fling Sunday at Veterans Park.
