A severe thunderstorm Tuesday morning, with winds in excess 60 mph, swept through Marion County uprooting trees and damaging property.

Aulne United Methodist Church women are pictured serving homemade ice cream, pie, and cake to the crowd that attended the annual fireworks Saturday at the church grounds. The Anything Goes band provided musical entertainment.

Rhett Arik Waner is the “Beary Special Baby” born in June at St. Luke Hospital.

Marion-Florence USD 408 superintendent of schools Lee Leiker officially began working for the school district Thursday. Leiker and his family moved to Marion from Johnson, where he served as superintendent of Stanton County Public Schools.

Brian Bina, freshman, Kelsey Craig and Maggie Powers, both sophomores, qualified for Emporia State University spring 2004 honor roll.

Jerry and Enid Cady recently went on vacation to Botswana, Africa. They spent a week at Chobe Wildlife Reserve near Kasane. They were able to experience wildlife watching from vehicles and boats.

Janice and Rosse Case returned to Marion July 2 after visiting Teresa, Joe, Haley, Hannah, and Abby Nielsen in Amherst, N. H., since June 24.
