Local law enforcement officers and city employees were given a good workout Friday morning when a wild emu was chased and eventually captured. The large ostrich-type bird was “tackled” by city employee Travis Schafers. Employees then tied the bird’s feet to prevent an escape and transported it to Animal Health Center of Marion County for an exam and boarding.

Marion High School seniors profiled in this issue for their athletic performances include Tyson Heidebrecht, Chris Freeby, and Jill Hannaford.

At least 24 students from the Centre school district and 29 adults from the area visited Washington, D.C., and New York City during spring break.

An Emporia truck driver charged with vehicular death of two Marion women, Brandi Bilbe and Lori Leeders, pleaded “not guilty” Monday morning in Marion District Court.

Congressman Jerry Moran addressed concerns of farmers during his appearance Tuesday at Ag Day in Marion. Moran is pictured visiting with Merv Deines of Ramona, Lloyd Funk of Hillsboro, and Gary Spohn of Tampa.
