Members of Chingawassa Days steering committee are pictured on the front page as they delivered, this past week, 25 cement 230-pound rhinoceros to local businesses and individuals. Rhino owners are encouraged to decorate and display the festival’s mascot.

Marion High School students featured in this week’s Senior Profiles are Adam Heerey, Chelsea Arnhold, and Molly Rhodes. Jeremy Vonderkamp, MHS junior, is the Marion County Record’s Athlete of the Week.

Gene Winkler of Marion Advancement Campaign reports 40 seats at $500 each have been sold in the current fund-raising campaign “Pick Your Seat.” Two hundred seats are available for the proposed theater-community center.

Marion native 2nd Lt. Raleigh C. Bowlby Jr., who was killed during the battle for Casino 61 years ago, was respectfully honored Saturday when his name, which had inadvertently been omitted originally, was added to the list inside the memorial bell tower which dominates the University of Kansas campus at Lawrence.

Butler Community College, Marion, will recognize Mary Griffith for 15 years service April 20 at the Butler of Marion building in Marion. Griffith has taught English, speech, and literature at the college. She also is a language art instructor at Marion High School.
