Chingawassa Days are fast approaching and six decorated rhinos are displayed on the front page. “Patches” belongs to Marion Healthmart Pharmacy, “Willie” to Case and Son and Hannaford Title Company, a no- name pink polka dot one at Marion National Bank, one dressed as a Kansas City Chief at Marion County Courthouse, “Aruba” at Animal Health Center of Marion County, and a letter carrier at the U.S. Post Office.

Also pictured are the five valedictorians at Marion High School. They are Sarah Williams, Whitney Wear, Alyssa Vogel, Brianna Vogel, and Molly Rhodes. Also pictured is Katie Zogelman, salutatorian.

Sophomore Travis Hett is the Marion County Record’s “Athlete of the Week.” Hett shot an 80 in the regional golf tournament at Cheney and has advanced to play at the Kansas 3A golf tournament May 23.

Built by H. S. Williard in 1881, the stone home at 404 E. Santa Fe has stood the test of time, surviving high winds and floods all these years. An article by Kathy Hageman, staff reporter, tells the history of the home.
