Discussion of a city economic development post will be on the agenda for Monday’s Marion City Commission meeting.

As fields dry up from recent rains, farmers have begun bringing in the wheat all across Marion County. According to Mike Thomas, manager of Cooperative Grain and Supply elevator at Marion, on Monday the facility took in 75,000 bushels.

With the first entrant in this year’s Produce Derby, JoAnn Nowak is pictured with one of four king-sized cabbages raised in the Nowak garden. The cabbages each weighed nine pounds and this one measures 3 feet, 4 inches around and 14 inches across.

Although the weather hasn’t been hot, warmer temperatures in the 80s and 90s have caused children and adults to seek relief in the city pool. Katey Ehrlich, 9, daughter of Mike and Kathy Ehrlich, is pictured enjoying paddling around the pool in an inner tube.

Bill Higgins of Burlington, N.C., former Marion resident, recently was recognized as Father of the Year at Integrity Community Church.

Gail and Marissa Makovec will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at a reception and dinner dance July 3 at Pilsen Community Center. Hosts will be their three children.
