Heavy rains during a three-day period made traveling treacherous in Marion County. Four to six ounces of rain fell in the county during that time with some roads and bridges under water.

A sign designating certification of 18.5 acres of forestland in the city of Florence can be seen at four locations around the town. Leonard Ellis is project manager of Florence Tree Farm. The city anticipates revenue from the black walnut trees when they are harvested at maturity.

Local artist Shawn Voth enjoys whatever time she can find to created stoneware. She is pictured working on a bowl she plans to display at Art in the Park.

Fall sports are here. Marion High School Warrior football seniors are Shawn Britton, Jeff Richmond, Jeremy Vondenkamp, Dave DeForest, Josh Kelsey, Casey Nelson, Adam Depler, Russell Ploutz, and Michael Brookens.

Luke and Ed Siebert of Marion found large, wild mushrooms growing in a brome field on their land five miles southwest of Marion. A mushroom encyclopedia identifies them as puffballs. Ed says, “They’re probably edible, but I’m not going to try them.”
