A burn ban was implemented by Marion County Commission Monday that will allow only agricultural-type burning. The burning of pastures will be allowed this week, but all other burning is banned.

A simulated drunk driving accident was portrayed Thursday at Marion High School. The simulation was designed to help students realize the effects of driving while under the influence. Student participants were Michael Brookens, Derek Vetter, and Alysha O’Dell. Also participating were firefighters Stacey Collett and Mike Regnier, EMS volunteer Gene Winkler, and Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Mike Ottensmeier.

Tish and Joe Vinduska have opened The Chipped Cup Café in Lincolnville. Located on the west side of US-56/77 the facility is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily except Sundays.

Jeremy Vonderkamp, MHS senior, is Athlete of the Week. Vonderkamp set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles April 13 at the Smoky Valley invitational. He also took first in the 110m hurdles.

A feature article recalls the experiences of Marion resident Gunnie Severs, once a glamorous New York fashion model. Severs moved to Marion six years ago to be closer to her family — including Sandy Loveless of rural Marion.
