Construction began this past week on a roundabout at US-77/50 intersection near Florence to reduce the danger of accidents. A four-way stop was installed in that area about two years ago but failed to stop the accidents.
Junior Erin Richmond is the Marion County Record Athlete of the Week. Richmond placed second Monday in both pole vault and javelin at the James Thomas invitational in Hillsboro.
A 100-year home at 127 Billings in Marion was demolished in a fiery blaze early Thursday morning. A fire marshal was unable to determine the cause due to the total destruction of the home. Presently owned by Ronald Cotton, for many years it was the residence of the Nodie Baker family.
Marion Junior Girl Scouts Madison Dicks, Lauren McLinden, Megan Richmond, Victoria Steiner, and Caroline Collett went to Camp Wood April 11 to work on two badges, Horse Fan and House Rider. They learned about feeding and grooming horses, tack, and horse safety before enjoying a trail ride and lunch.
A long line of fans greeted Food Network star Alton Brown Saturday at Florence’s Spring Fling. Brown and his crew were in town filming shots for a new show, “Feasting on Asphalt,” which will air in July.
