The good news has come at last. US-77 between US-56/K-150 junction and US-50 at Florence is scheduled to open August 1, weather permitting.

Marion students recently named to the dean’s honor roll at Wichita State University for the spring semester are Chelsea Arnhold, Molly Rhodes, and Glenda Webster.

The dog days of summer are with us. Scorching triple-digit temperatures this past weekend and forecasts are that this is only the beginning of a long hot-and-dry spell.

Cottonwood Valley 11-year-old all stars won the District IV tournament July 7-9 in Newton. Members of the team include Jordan Hett, Ethan Hett, Christian Gard, Tommy Morris, Hunter Scott, Patrick McCarty, Hunter Pickens, Wes Shaw, Austin Savage, Alex Wiens, Ray Savage, and Jacob Harper.

Zan Fine is pictured holding a conjoined cucumber from the garden of his grandfather, Alex Hayes of Florence. The vegetable is 10 inches in diameter and came from one vine.

Births announced this week include Sienna Belle Jones, daughter of Savannah Killough and Brent Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma, born July 6, and Jerrid Ronald Whitwell, son of Josh and Clark Whitwell, born July 12.
