Marion County Commission announced Monday that Teresa Huffman of Moundridge has been hired as an economic development secretary. Her first day will be Nov. 1.

Marion High School seniors Kari Tajchman and Joel Zeiner have been chosen by the school staff as students of the month. Tajchman is the daughter of Kay and Charles Tajchman. Zeiner is the son of Ty Zeiner and Janet Zeiner.

Ed Summers is recognized as the outstanding employee for the 4th quarter at St. Luke Hospital and Living Center and Marion County Home Care.

Tristan Williams, four-year-old daughter of Doug and Sheila Williams, is pictured holding her family’s entrant in this week’s Produce Derby. The giant sweet potato, grown in the family’s garden, weighs almost two pounds.

Kevin Mueller, son of Don and Francie Mueller of Tampa, and Alisha Barney, daughter of Gene and Denise Barney of Tampa, were crowned king and queen Friday during Centre High School’s fall homecoming ceremonies.

Jacob Jirak and Cole Svoboda, both of Ramona, are pictured picking pumpkins for Jirak Produce, Tampa. In addition to supplying local markets, owner Ron Jirak is selling semi loads of pumpkins to distributors in the Midwest.
