Former Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Ottensmeier is the newest member of Marion Police Department. Ottensmeier’s law enforcement career began in 1989 when he became a military policeman in the U.S. Air Force.

After months of winter, it finally felt like spring Monday with warm temperatures and no wind. Children and adults were out enjoying Marion’s Central Park. Cole Methvin, 9, of Lincolnville, is pictured as he swings across the bars of the new playground gym.

Announced this week as the outstanding employee of the quarter at St. Luke Hospital is Keri Richmond of the radiology department.

Fifty-three volunteers braved strong northwest winds Saturday to help with the sixth annual Marion Reservoir cleanup day. The second annual Marion County Park and Lake volunteer workday is Saturday at the lake.

Florence Spring Fling is scheduled to be held April 27 at the city spring two miles north of town. The spring originally was known as Crystal Spring and is one of the largest single springs in the Flint Hills.

Former Marion High School standout Jason Hett has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Tabor College next season, transferring from Washburn University. He is the son of Gary and Joella Hett of Marion.
