This week the Marion County Record will observe its 130th birthday. The first issue came off the press on Sept. 24, 1869. J.W. Robinson was the founding editor/publisher and the newspaper was called The Western News.

Despite light rain most of the day, 30,000 or more people visited Marion Saturday to attend the 21st annual arts and crafts fair in Central Park.

Roger and Marie Morse this week donated $5,000 to benefit the proposal to move Marion City Library to the former Santa Fed Depot.

Marion High School Warriors played the Chase County Bulldogs Friday and won the homecoming game, 21-12. At halftime, Jessica Moore was crowned homecoming queen. Runners-up were Camille Wessel and Emily Costello. Dalton Freeman was named homecoming king.

Larry and Deanna Olsen of Marion entered five of their miniature horses in competition at the Kansas State Fair. Showing the horses for the Olsens were Heather, Tamra, and Molly Holub of Marion and Heather’s friend Emily Schlenker of Wichita. Deana Olson also showed horses.
