After a 20-year hiatus, PRIDE will return to Marion. Organizer Diana Costello asked the council to approve a resolution of support for the program, which the council approved.

Costello serves as president of the organization with Margaret Wilson serving as secretary, Sally Hannaford is treasurer, and Pam Bowers, Jeanice Thomas, and Karen Regnier are volunteers.

Marion County voters will have the opportunity April 5 to approve or reject a one-half cent sales tax to build a new jail, Sheriff’s Department, and dispatch.

Cub Scout Pack 102 Tiger Cub Ian Ingels is pictured as he makes certain his Pinewood Derby car is square on the starting block Sunday. Ian placed first in the Tiger Cub division. Riley Hake won the “Best of Show” design and Hap Waddell won the “Most Unique” design.

Hanna Funk won the Marion County Spelling Bee held Feb. 10 in the USD 408 Performing Arts Center. Second place went to Justin Bina of Centre and Taylor Helmer of Hillsboro finished third.

In an article by staff writer Adam Stewart, he tells how Torey Hett, 24-year-old Marion resident, spoke to students at Hillsboro Elementary School Monday. He told students that everybody has times when they tell themselves, “I can’t do this.”

Hett, who was born with spina bifada, a condition that makes him unable to feel his legs and feet, went on to say that in many cases, when a person really tries, they find it isn’t as difficult as it seems.

Brody Carroll is Marion High School’s athlete of the week. A sophomore, Brody won the regional wrestling title in the 130-pound weight class Saturday in Beloit.
