City of Marion workers began work Monday in Marion’s former railroad depot. City officials have decided to convert part of the depot into chamber of commerce offices. First order of business was installation of a new furnace.

After careful research of local regulations and state statutes, the City of Marion approved, Monday, the application of John Jacobson to establish a beer garden on his property at the corner of East Main and South Freeborn.

Dr. Jackie Vietti, president of Butler County Community College, met with City of Marion commissioners Monday to investigate the possibility of a longer-term agreement between the two.

A huge flock of Canada geese wintering at Marion County Lake provides a spectacular sight for residents and visitors. Estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000 in number, the geese arrived before Christmas and will remain until the weather warms up in spring. Watching and hearing them in flight as they go to and from milo fields for morning and evening feedings is an interesting activity for those living in the Marion community.

Marion High School teacher and coach Rex Wilson has been named boys cross country 1999 Section V Coach of the year by the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches Association. The longtime MHS teacher and coach has led Warrior boys’ teams to state six times and girls’ teams nine times.
