The City of Marion took another giant step Monday toward the proposal to construct a locally owned electric power generating plant and a natural gas distribution system. SKW Engineering was the successful bidder to provide plans and design work for the electric generating plant, the gas distribution system, and feeder line to the Williams gas pipeline south of Marion.

The Marion County Record hosted 30 newspaper staff members to a Central District meeting of the Kansas Press Association Friday. The group was especially interested in learning about digital photography, pagination and full process color technology, which is being utilized by the Marion County Record.

Betty Lange and Don Fruechting were married March 7, in the Aulne United Methodist Church. The bride’s brother, the Rev. Keith Harder, officiated at the ceremony.

Marion High School student Adam Thomas has signed a letter of intent to play football with national powerhouse Coffeyville Community College. He is the son of Gayle and Mike Thomas.

Randy Mills of Florence has been named the 1999 Cattle Businessman of the Year, a national award. Randy, his wife Judy and their family operate three ranches that comprise the Doyle Creek Cattle Co. in the Flint Hills.
