Hundreds of people gathered Tuesday at Marion Equipment’s John Deere agency on North Cedar in Marion for the annual consignment auction

Marion High School basketball players Carrie Darrow and Scott Hannaford were named to first team all-Cottonwood Valley League. Sara Cleeton was named second team.

The second winter storm in a week to pass through the area proved to bring nothing more than an inch or so of wet snow. Temperatures hovered at or above freezing and the warm ground absorbed the snow almost as it fell. No weather-related traffic accidents were reported. The heaviest moisture fell in the southern and western parts of the state.

Bailey Skiles recently received the prestigious Putnam Scholarship at Kansas State University. A senior at Marion High School, she is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bruce Skiles of Marion. The $3,025 Putnam Scholarship is one of KSU’s most honored academic awards.

Forty years ago, green was printed on the front page in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. It was done when Joan Meyer stood by the press, dabbed her thumb on an ink pad, and pressed it on the page as each paper came off the press. It’s much easier today when  color can be done by a keystroke on the computer.
