Marion’s Chingawassa Day’s three-day festival starts Friday. The Grammy-award-winning Nitty Gritty Dirt Band takes the stage Saturday night. Members of this year’s committee for the festival are Jo Helmer, chairman; Mike Powers, Bruce Skiles, Gene Winkler, Susan Cooper, Brent Boyer, Donna Bernhardt, Reuben Feuerborn, Sharon Kelsey, Alex H. Case, and Margo Yates.

Anniversary celebrations listed this week include Janice and Rosse Case, 50 years; Anita and Virgil Weber, 50 years; and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Clothier, 60 years.

The W.A. Conyers cousins met Monday at the home of Ellen Darrow. Those attending were Addie Kruse, McGregor, Texas; Pauline Oblander, Eureka; Mildred Suffield, Lincolnville; Georgia Lalouette and Ailene Anderson, Florence; and Bessie Bass, Iva Unruh, and Ellen Darrow, Marion.

“Beary Special Babies” born in the month of May at St. Luke Hospital were Natasha Jo Love, May 4; Shonda Irene Ratzloff, May 22; Kaylee Ann Hall, May 23; and Austin James Cogdill, May 26.

Letitia “Tish” Waner of Florence has been selected to participate in the 1999 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine to be held July 18-28 in Boston. She will be among a select group attending the forum, with students coming from across the nation and around the world.
