Marion Chamber of Commerce rolled out the red carpet Wednesday as Bike Across Kansas peddled into town. Almost 300 people, ages 10 to 87, from Route A of BAK, ate and slept at Marion High School.
Kelley Hett has been awarded the Geraldine Rathbone Scholarship from the College of Education at Wichita State University. The award is based on leadership and academic ability.
A reunion of four former country schools — Districts 9, 54, 61, and 56 — was held Sunday at the Marion Senior Center. Fifty former students, teachers, and friends enjoyed a basket dinner followed by visiting.
Marion County Area Retired Teachers Association has compiled a book of stories based on school experiences in Marion County. Former teachers in Marion County have been working on the book, “Teacher Tales,” for the past two years. Twenty-five teachers shared experiences, which will be published.
Marion City Library and Marion Historical Preservation Committee are selling memorial bricks. Funds from the brick sale will be used as matching funds for a possible federal grant to convert the former railroad depot into a library.
