Marion school district celebrated its centennial in 1964, with the event duly recorded in the columns of the Marion County Record’s Oct. 22, 1954, issue. The public school district was formed the same year that Marion County was organized, 1864. It was called Marion School District Number 1. A copy of the 1954 item is re-printed in this 1999 issue.
A representative of the Herington radio station met with Marion City Commission Monday to get permission to use the city auditorium for a Midwest regional country music contest. Marion will be one of five sites across the nation for the regional Jimmy Dean True Value Country Hoe Down.
Marion’s fifth and sixth grade football team started practice Monday. They are coached by Josh Whitwell, Dusty Delaney, Shaun Craft, and Noah King. All four coaches graduated in ’98 from Marion High School.
Residents and staff of Hilltop Manor enjoyed a hamburger cookout Aug. 10 at Hilltop Manor.
