Despite the cool, cloudy, weather with temperature in the 50s, a good crowd turned out to enjoy activities during Lincolnville’s 12th annual Octoberfest. Don Buethe was grand marshal of the parade.

A group of Marion Elementary School fourth graders toured the county courthouse Sept. 30 as part of a project on community. The project includes efforts to develop an understanding and appreciation for local governments, and the components of a town.

City Administrator Dennis Nichols told members of Marion City Commission, in session Monday, that he has placed advertisement in area newspapers to recruit a new police chief. Former police chief Don Keazer resigned two weeks ago.

Chase County will celebrate the 125th birthday of its historic courthouse Oct. 17. It is the oldest courthouse in use in Kansas, and is well known for its architecture.

Marion Middle School Student Council sponsors an incentive award weekly for students who show responsibility and maturity. Recent winners include Megan O’Dell, Ashlee Moore, Caitlin O’Dell, Sarah Lowry, and Bronson Peterie.

Marion Kiwanis Club officers were installed Monday by Kansas District Governor Bill Wygle of Council Grove. Mike Classen was presented with a life membership in the Kansas Kiwanis Foundation by Keith Bray of the Emporia Hi-Noon Club.

Rex Siebert of Marion has been recognized by the American Hereford Association for producing two cows named to the AHA dams of distinction list.
