Marion Elementary School first-graders joined to decorate the school’s front lawn for Halloween. The classmates made scarecrows out of straw, old clothes, and paper or plastic bags.
City leaders in Marion and Hillsboro are considering a joint effort to build a power plant to supplement the current energy system.

Carolyn (Vinduska) Meerian was honored Oct. 1 at the Kansas Outstanding Minority and Women-owned Business Awards banquet. The daughter of Paul and Margaret Vinduska of Marion, Meerian is co-owner of the Overbrook Quilt Connection.
Tom Leihy of Tampa was elected chairman of Leadership Marion County at the Oct. 14 meeting of the new board. Brad Bartel, representing Peabody, was elected vice chairman and treasurer. Kodi Kelsey of Marion was elected secretary.
Construction crews took advantage of the good weather Monday at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. The church is building a new fellowship hall and remodeling the current hall into classrooms.
Forty-six children participated Saturday in the NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass, and Kick event at Marion. First place winners in the girls’ events were 12-13-year-olds, Leann Thomas; 10-11, Toni Gordon; and 8-9, Alisha Barney. First place winners of the boys’ events: 14-15, James Bina; 12-13, Steven Boone; 10-11, Seth Jirak; and 8-9, Austin Hager.
