The proposal to construct an auxiliary power plant to generate electricity for Marion and Hillsboro is “looking good,” said City Administrator Dennis Nichols Monday. Because of access to lower gas prices from Shawmar Oil Co., Nichols said it appears a full time generating plant might be a feasible option.

Jim Helmer and Justin Whiteman led the Marion High School football team on offense this season. Helmer had 748 yards and seven touchdowns on 93 carries for Marion. Whiteman had 203 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions. Adam Thomas was defensive leader with 59 first hits, 41 assists, and nine tackles for losses.

Cyndi Woerz, M.D., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Woerz of Marion, recently began her career as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

Katrina Hancock of Marion is starting at center for the Bradley University women’s basketball team. Hancock had 10 points and five rebounds in Bradley’s opening season win over Utah 58-57 on Nov. 13.

Kaylyn Spencer and Kayley Heerey present Marion Elementary School librarian Elaine Shannon with “The Gingerbread Boy: Chapter Two.” The first graders wrote and illustrated the book because they thought the gingerbread boy was too cleaver to be eaten by a fox, as the traditional story ends. In their book, he escapes the fox, meets a gingerbread girl, and lives a contented life.
